Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in joining Macmillan at a pivotal moment for our organisation and for the communities we serve.

We are embarking on an ambitious journey. We are making a long-term commitment to transform how care and support are designed and delivered for people living with cancer and other long-term conditions. This work is about shifting care closer to home, breaking down silos across systems, and tackling the inequities that lead to poor outcomes for too many people. It centres communities and people with lived experience of cancer, while changing how money is spent to make this happen.

To help deliver this change, we are building a diverse, high-calibre team of innovators, system thinkers, influencers, designers, relationship builders and problem solvers. People who love using insight, data and experience for real world impact and changemakers who share our belief that care should fit the person, not just the condition. The roles within this campaign are critical to our ability to influence systems, strengthen partnerships, shift investment, test new models of care, and build the evidence needed to drive lasting, national impact.

The programme we are recruiting to is called ‘Neighbourhood Health’, to match the phrase widely used in England. But our vision and ambition stretch across the UK – and we are growing the team delivering this programme to respond to a UK-wide challenge. You might hear this work described as ‘Community By Design’ in Wales, ‘the Neighbourhood Model of Care’ in Northern Ireland, and ‘Improving the Cancer Journey’ in Scotland. But wherever we work across the UK, our approach and ambition is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: care should fit the person, not just the condition.

This is more than a recruitment campaign. It is an opportunity to be part of work that reshapes how health, social care and community support come together around people and places. If you are motivated by collaboration, finding ways through complexity, and the chance to use investment to redesign care and create meaningful change at scale, we would love to hear from you.

At Macmillan, our values guide everything we do. We are committed to tackling inequity, challenging the systems that lead to unfair outcomes, and ensuring that lived experience sits at the heart of how change is designed and delivered.

We know that people’s experiences of cancer are shaped by race, disability, gender, socioeconomic background and place, and we actively seek voices and perspectives that reflect the communities we serve across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and encourage you to bring your whole self, your experiences and your insight to this work.

Thank you for taking the time to explore these opportunities and for considering a future with Macmillan. We are excited to continue to create care that is more inclusive, more person-centred and more effective and we welcome you to join us on our journey.

Director of Communities and System Partnerships
